From the examples stated in the article in this link about "Real Life Implementation of Data Mining", the conclusions are pretty much simple.

To begin with, i think all of us should first take an understanding about the definition of this so called "Data Mining" itself. Data Mining is a computational process of digging through a collection of data to find unique patterns and behaviours by using mathematical formula in order to help users to make a future prediction about what's going to happen to their organization in the near future. To simplify this, Data Mining is a computational process of finding predictions about what's going to happen in the future, like a psychic.

Data Mining process

From the article stated we can see that Data Mining is used by many kinds of organization, from bank companies to health care organizations. The reason why Data Mining is so popular is because of the result it provides, which is future predictions. Data Mining helps all these organizations to find predictions about their business in the near future. Data Mining prevents bad things from happening because the future has already being predicted. It is very certain that Data Mining can increase business performances.

The only downside of this process is just the cost it requires. Data Mining is not something you can easily do when you want it, it requires a specific application which costs money, staff training in order for them to be able to use the application or even do the Data Mining calculations. But, i think it is not a corcerning matter to be worried because of the benefits you will get later on.
